The History of Saint Francis and Assisi
Francis was born the son of a wealthy merchant in Assisi. After his conversion, he chose a life of poverty and preaching, and founded the Franciscan Order. After his death, construction of a church was undertaken as an object of veneration, and in the 13th century, two churches, an upper and an upper, and a bell tower were completed. The lower church contains frescoes by Cimabue and Simone Martini, while the upper church contains frescoes depicting the life of Saint Francis by Giotto, making it known as a treasure trove of Italian painting.
